Wednesday Evenings at the Corcoran Gallery of Art

Join us Wednesday evenings (5–9 p.m.) for exhibitions, receptions, and tours as well as food and drink from Todd Gray’s Muse at the Corcoran.

7 p.m. Docent-led tour. National Photography Month. Discover work by artists such as Paul Graham, Edward Burtynsky, and Hank Willis Thomas in the exhibition How is the World? Recent Acquisitions of Contemporary Photography.

6:30-8:30 p.m. Create at the Corcoran Happy Hour: Jewelry-Making Workshop. $30 members, $35 public; pre-registration required. Discover the art of jewelry making, enjoy a glass of wine, and create a one-of-a-kind piece at this hands-on workshop. Using a variety of molds and pourable plastics, participants have a chance to cast completely personal jewelry that they can wear home. Supplies, wine, and light snacks are provided. Gallery admission included. Corcoran Jewelry Department faculty member Jenn Parnell teaches the workshop. Meet Jenn at people.corcoran.org.

6-7:30 p.m. Create at the Corcoran Happy Hour: Pinhole Photography
$20 members, $25 public; pre-registration required.Come build your own pinhole camera to capture the movement of the sun over the next six months. Taught by UK-based photographer and pinhole camera expert Justin Quinnell, this workshop is perfect for anyone interested in photography, astronomy, recycling, design, or technology. After the workshop, Quinnell will deliver a lively lecture on the history and possibilities of pinhole photography. Price includes includes admission, supplies, wine, and light snacks.

7 p.m. Lecture. James Bridle: A Quiet Disposition Free; pre-registration encouraged. In conjunction with the opening of his Gallery 31 exhibition, A Quiet Disposition, writer, artist, publisher, and technologist James Bridle speaks about his research-based projects that center around the theme of drones. Opening reception in Gallery 31 follows the talk.

7 p.m. Docent-led tour. First Day of Summer. Discover how artists depict the scenes and activities of the warm months.

7 p.m. Lecture. Michael Kamber: Photojournalists on War Members, $8; Public: $10. For his new book, Photojournalists on War: The Untold Stories from Iraq, Michael Kamber conducted in-depth interviews with 39 colleagues. The results are candid and honest first-person stories of the war in Iraq. Kamber will review stories and photographs included in the book, before previewing the exhibition WAR/PHOTOGRAPHY: Images of Armed Conflict and Its Aftermath.

7 p.m. Docent-led tour. Salon Doré. Celebrate 20 years since the Salon Doré’s most recent restoration with an in-depth look at this famous room.
