Back to the Future: Stealing from the Old Masters
Lincoln Perry speaks about his Luddite frustration with technology, and his retreat into 15th century media.
As a painter and sculptor, Mr. Perry has found aid and comfort in carefully looking at his tradition with an eye not to the superficial "look" of the old masters, but to their deeper structural, metaphorical thinking. As T.S. Eliot suggested, we engage in a conversation with our predecessors, taking and transforming their gift to us.
In a captivating evening detailing the journey of an artist, Mr. Perry recounts his own 20th and 21st versions of The Grand Tour and their impact on his career as an artist.
The figurative paintings of Lincoln Perry capture visual narrative at its highest level. Mr. Perry is currently serving as Distinguished Visiting Artist at The University of Virginia in Charlottesville, a position he has held since 2001. He has exhibited around the country in a number of solo and group exhibitions, and has permanent installations on view in Florida, Virginia, Missouri, and Washington, D.C.

About the Dudley Memorial Lecture
The Dudley Memorial Lecture was established in 1984 by Argentina’s husband, Robert Whittier Dudley, and their six children to commemorate and perpetuate her life’s work and interests. In keeping with Argentina’s vision, the objective of the program is to provide memorable and enriching cultural experiences to diverse audiences.
The Dudley family established this endowment fund to secure in perpetuity the annual Argentina Copello Dudley Memorial Lecture. The Corcoran welcomes contributions to this important fund.
