Capturing Clouds - Afternoon Session - SOLD OUT

 

Saturday, February 27, 2010    1 p.m.

Head up to the clouds for a sky high tour of the special exhibition, Turner to Cézanne: Masterpieces from the Davies Collection, National Museum Wales. Find shapes in the skies and learn to identify nimbus, cirrus, stratus, and cumulus clouds. Down in our studio, paint your favorite cloud formation using acrylic paint on canvas board. Don’t forget to paint the silver lining!

Following the tour, create your own dazzling display of light in an Impressionist sunrise using watercolor ink and plant fiber paper.

The Corcoran invites you to participate in art-making workshops, experience the magic of illusion in our theatre, tour the special exhibitions, Helios: Eadweard Muybridge in a Time of Change and Turner to Cézanne: Masterpieces from the Davies Collection, National Museum Wales, and unlock the mysteries of light and motion through dazzling performances.

Workshop for Adults

Explore and discuss en plein air techniques in Turner to Cézanne: Masterpieces from the Davies Collection, National Museum Wales, an internationally acclaimed collection of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist art. Randolph Williams, artist and Corcoran graduate, leads participants in outdoor sketching activities. Materials for this workshop are included. No prior drawing experience is necessary. Registration is required.

The exhibition takes place at the Gallery each spring and opens with a reception for ArtReach students, their families, and members.

Pulp to Paper

Paint and canvas are not the only tools artists use to create. See portraits made from wood blocks, strings, and even paper pulp in the special exhibition Process and Collaboration: The Prints of Chuck Close. Following the tour, create your own hand-made paper from bits of paper pulp.
