Barclay Wellman

Personal Information

Barclay Wellman has an undergraduate degree from Georgetown University in Fine Art and Economics. He also received a Masters of Fine Arts Degree in sculpture from the University of Maryland. He is currently an Associate Faculty member at the Corcoran College of Art and Design, where he has taught a variety of courses since 1997. He began his journey toward an MFA at Cranbrook Academy of Art where he studied under Michael Hall. This was followed by a graduate program in industrial design at Rochester Institute of Technology where he won two consecutive prizes in the Gunlocke Furniture design competition. Later, upon returning to the Washington area, he completed his MFA at the University of Maryland. He currently teaches a range of metal sculpture and fabrication courses to students of all skill and concept levels. Fourteen years ago he was drawn to the enthusiasm, ambition and energy of the students and faculty of the Corcoran, and he is delighted that those same qualities continue today.
