Jasper Johns to Jeff Koons: Four Decades of Art from the Broad Collections

Since the 1970s, Eli and Edythe L. Broad have created one of the foremost collections of postwar art in the United States. Based in Los Angeles, The Broad Art Foundation and the Broads’ personal collection together include over 1,000 works by more than 150 artists. These holdings are notable for their high quality and in-depth representation of individual artists. For the Corcoran’s presentation of this major traveling exhibition, the largest selection from these collections ever shown outside California, the Broads have lent more than 80 works by 19 artists that trace major trends in international art since the 1950s. Organized chronologically by artist, the show begins with the highly influential paintings of Jasper Johns and Cy Twombly. Other prominent figures associated with major national and international art movements, such as Pop art and German Neo-Expressionism, are well represented, including Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, John Baldessari, Anselm Kiefer, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Cindy Sherman, Charles Ray, and Jeff Koons. A gallery devoted entirely to the work of Koons is located on the other side of the bridge from this entrance to the exhibition, and his Balloon Dog was featured in the Corcoran’s Rotunda.
