Cosmo Couture 2012

September 21, 2012

Congratulations to the Corcoran’s students in the MA Interior Design program who participated in this year's Cosmo Couture. The International Interior Design Association Washington Metro City Center (IIDA MAC), partnered with the Corcoran Gallery and Corcoran College of Art + Design, for this year’s Cosmo Couture fundraising event, which was held on September 20, 2012 at the Artisphere in Arlington, Virginia. Cosmo Couture fosters a direct collaboration between local Architecture and Interior Design firms and their manufacturing partners in the Washington DC area, to create garments reflecting a given theme. The garments are judged during a runway show and awards were given to design teams in different categories. The beneficiary for this year’s event will be My Sister’s Place.

This was the first year a student team particpated in the event.  The interior design students created a garment all out of architectural materials after taking a summer course in which students researched fashion and interior design, designed the exhibition, and created the dress.

The inspiration of the theme was based on Raymond Saunder’s Red Star which is part of the museum’s contemporary collection. All of this year's garments will be featured in a Gallery 31 exhibition September 26, 2012—October 14, 2012. The Corcoran will host a panel discussion on September 27, starting at 7:00 pm, followed by a reception.
